Pres Sez
I'd like to thank Horace(K7ORY) for keeping our Club's roster up to date and full of useful information. As I look over his latest effort, I find that some 60+% of members are in name only, and we never see them at meetings. The other 30+% are either regulars or attend at times. At the last meeting, only a handful came. Unless we get better support, our Club as we know it will someday cease to be. Loyalty to any organization is more than just paying dues, and the bottom line is for active participation like coming to meetings to share experiences and expertise in Amateur Radio. Thirty five of our seventy five members are Extra Class and should possess a wealth of knowledge and experience. It sure would be nice to tap into that expertise as I'm sure they have a lot to offer. Bob(N7KTP) puts out an excellent Newsletter every month, and some I've talked to never read it. Why?
Any comments on the above will be appreciated. How can we save the Club? If we get the Undersea Museum space for a ham station, we'll need many more members to man it.
We will also be looking for some new officers for the coming year, so volunteers are in order. As my effort as President winds down, I'd like to thank the many who have championed the effort to make our Club as great as it is, and I know that many who have labored much are now receiving the reward. It's up to us to continue their effort and help the Club survive. (Sermon for the month!) P.S. Russ and John even bring sweet rolls as a reward for attending the meeting. Come and bring a friend and offer support to the Club as needed. Cheers.
73 Jerry Turner, K9CCZ.

Are you ready?
Hurricane Katrina dealt a devastating blow to the Gulf Coast states last week. As you listen to the reports and analysis of the preparedness, did you give any thought about your state of readiness for a natural disaster? The website at http://www.ready.gov provides a wealth of information on personal preparedness for disasters as individuals, families and communities. Take a look and see how well you are prepared..
Volunteers Needed!
Another reminder. At the July business meeting, President Jerry announced that he is resigning from his post as club president effective 1 December. Vice President Bob stated that he will not be able to take an office next year because of personal reasons. The nomination and election of club officers takes place at the December dinner meeting. There is just a short time to think about who will lead the club next year
The club offices are listed on the newsletter mail page. Look over the list and think about the office you would consider or else who would make a good candidate. If somebody approaches you and asks you to consider a position, listen and give some thought to it. After all, they have confidence that you have the qualifications for the office you are being asked to consider.
NKARC is an active club with many interesting programs and presentations. Club members represent many diverse aspects of amateur radio and they are willing to share their experiences and expertise. The club has had exceptional leadership but the leadership must change to avoid stagnation and to introduce new ideas. Take an office and help continue the action.

Picnic/Swapfest Time:
The August presentation meeting was a picnic and a "swapfest" in the patio shelter at Viking Park. Club members sorted through the material in the shack and in the garage and probably emade the XYL happy. Others picked up pieces for the new antenna or project needed but could not be afforded at market price.
The club provided hot dogs and coffee. Russ Swank brought his famous pot of beans. Others brought a wide variety of: salads, side dishes, desserts, and drinks.
Guests included spouses, friends, girlfriends and children. There were many stories about the one that got away. (DX contact that is) in spite of the "poor" propagation.
Considering the good turnout and the fine social atmosphere, it may be a good idea to schedule a few more "pot-luck" socials during the year. The next club social event is the annual Christmas party. Watch the newsletter for further details.
